Anne Marie Segal is an executive coach, author, and founder of Segal Coaching LLC. After spending fifteen years as an attorney, she realized she was ready for a career shift and set out to find a new path-one that would allow her to make a direct impact on others’ professional growth.
Through personal reflection and conversations with career coaches, Anne Marie discovered her passion for helping people navigate career transitions, clarify their values, and achieve their professional goals. In April 2015, she launched Segal Coaching, a firm specializing in coaching attorneys, executives, and board candidates. Drawing on her experience as a certified coach and lifelong writer, she now helps clients refine their strengths and advance their careers.
A Journey from Law to Coaching and Writing
Anne Marie began college as a journalism major before transitioning into creative writing and photography. She initially worked as an art historian before pivoting to law school, drawn to the legal profession’s mix of writing, languages, travel, and practical impact. Over 15 years, she gained experience in corporate law, compliance, investment funds, private equity, employment law, trademark law, estate planning, nonprofit law, and litigation preparation.
Although she enjoyed practicing law, she found the most fulfillment in the relationships she built with colleagues, clients, and peers. She also loved writing, an essential skill in her legal work. These realizations led her to a turning point in 2014, when she decided to transition into coaching. “I wanted to be more directly involved in helping people achieve success-however they defined it-and I wanted to do it on my own terms,” she says.
With a strong background in mentoring and writing, she built a coaching practice that allows her to guide professionals through career transitions. Though changing careers can be daunting, Anne Marie embraced the challenge, creating a business that blends creativity, strategic thinking, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
Building a Career in Executive Coaching
Anne Marie believes people enter the coaching field for one of two reasons: either they had a mentor who greatly influenced them, or they had to navigate challenges alone and want to help others avoid the same struggles. “I am definitely in the latter camp,” she says. “I want to help others have it easier than I did.”
Headquartered in Stamford, CT, Segal Coaching LLC provides leadership coaching and professional writing services for executives and board candidates. The firm specializes in leadership development, personal branding, executive presence, resume and LinkedIn profile writing, and interview preparation. Most of her clients are senior leaders, including C-suite executives, general counsel, and board candidates.
A Tailored Approach to Coaching
Anne Marie focuses on helping clients understand their values and motivations while identifying potential roadblocks in their career paths. Many seek her guidance on personal branding, leadership strategies, and mindset shifts needed for professional growth.
Her practical approach sets her apart, as she combines industry knowledge with deep insight into team dynamics, leadership development, and career advancement. Clients often come to her after working with previous coaches who were more like “cheerleaders” and are now looking for someone who can help them make tangible career moves. “While it’s important to celebrate wins, my role is to help clients make meaningful shifts, not just offer encouragement,” she explains.
Developing a Personal Value Proposition
One of Anne Marie’s key strengths is helping clients develop their personal value propositions. Whether they need to build confidence, redefine their career direction, or rebrand themselves for a new role, she helps them identify and articulate their unique strengths.
For example, an executive transitioning from a CFO or General Counsel role to a CEO must refine their leadership messaging to align with CEO expectations. Similarly, professionals moving into board roles need to adjust their value proposition to highlight governance and strategic oversight rather than operational expertise. Anne Marie works closely with clients to ensure their branding aligns with their career goals and market demands.
A Passion for Writing
Anne Marie has always been drawn to writing as a way to organize thoughts and share ideas. She is the author of two career-focused books: Master the Interview (2016) and Know Yourself, Grow Your Career (2017).
Master the Interview serves as a comprehensive guide to excelling in job interviews, covering networking, value propositions, tough questions, and offer negotiations. She is currently working on a second edition of the book, scheduled for release in 2024.
Know Yourself, Grow Your Career is a workbook designed to help individuals articulate their strengths and professional priorities, making it a valuable resource for career coaches and professionals seeking personal growth.
Connecting with Audiences Through Speaking Engagements
Anne Marie’s goal as a speaker is to help audiences recognize their own wisdom. Whether presenting at conferences, running workshops, or facilitating leadership discussions, she ensures her content is meaningful and actionable. Over the years, she has refined her public speaking skills, continuously improving her ability to engage and inspire professionals.
Leadership in Diversity Initiatives
From the start and through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anne Marie served as the Facilitator of PODER25, a diversity pipeline program under the Hispanic National Bar Association. She played a crucial role in talent development, recruiter engagement, program management, career coaching, and leadership development for more than 60 Hispanic in-house lawyers pursuing General Counsel roles in Fortune 500 companies.
Under her leadership, PODER25 evolved from an early-stage initiative to a best-in-class leadership accelerator. She also collaborated with program leaders to recruit and onboard an Advisory Council of Fortune 500 General Counsel.
Client Success Stories
One of Anne Marie’s most rewarding experiences was coaching a high-level executive who was transitioning into a corporate board career. Initially unsure of his prospects, he went on to serve on multiple public and private company boards. “It was a transformative win,” she shares. “But beyond the big successes, there are countless aha moments in every coaching session.”
Looking Ahead
Anne Marie continues to evolve Segal Coaching to meet the needs of executives and board candidates. She is expanding her corporate board readiness coaching programs and refining her signature board mastermind program. In addition to publishing a second edition of Master the Interview, she has more books in development.
She is also in the process of learning her fifth language-Italian-which she documents on YouTube. She remains committed to building leadership bridges across cultures, languages, and industries while helping professionals define and achieve their career goals.
Through coaching, writing, and speaking, Anne Marie Segal is shaping the future of executive leadership, one career transformation at a time.
