Success doesn’t happen overnight—it’s built on persistence, preparation, and execution. Lawrence Kaiser’s journey to the C-suite is a testament to this philosophy. An 18-year veteran in healthcare marketing and the Chief Marketing Officer at Clearsense, Kaiser has made a significant impact on the industry. His contributions were recognized in 2020 when he received the Health IT Marketer of the Year award.
Kaiser is known for his results-oriented approach and ability to develop and implement successful marketing strategies in any environment. He has a talent for creating compelling brand identities that drive engagement and action. His track record includes executing cost-effective, integrated campaigns that stay within budget and timelines.
With a pragmatic approach to marketing and communications, Kaiser values cross-departmental collaboration, forging relationships across teams to create a strong network of advocates. As a speaker, he frequently presents on branding, best practices, and the use of humor in marketing—emphasizing the importance of authenticity in leadership.
“I am constantly seeking knowledge, whether about marketing or our industry,” Kaiser says. “Each step I take, I’m already looking ahead to the next move—for both my team and myself. I never stop looking forward.”
A Career Built on Innovation
After graduating from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1998, Kaiser began his career as a technical engineer in the contact center software industry at Teknekron Infoswitch in Irving, TX. He quickly adapted to the technology, producing technical notes and transitioning into project management before shifting into marketing.
His healthcare IT journey began at Keane, a healthcare software and IT services firm, where he managed RFPs. After Keane was acquired by NTT DATA in 2010, Kaiser moved through the ranks from RFP Manager to Senior Marketing Manager, solidifying his passion for storytelling and brand management.
Kaiser then joined Optimum Healthcare IT, where he built the marketing function from the ground up. Under his leadership, the company grew to $160 million in revenue and earned a Best in KLAS Healthcare IT Services designation.
In 2022, he took on a dual role as Chief Marketing Officer for both Optimum Healthcare IT and its sister company, Clearsense. By September 2022, he was fully focused on Clearsense, leading the launch of a new brand and website.
“Launching the new Clearsense brand was an intense experience for my entire team,” Kaiser explains. “I built a department with individuals who had experience in multiple rebrands, ever-changing priorities, and the ability to teach me throughout the process.” The launch of the 1Clearsense platform, new logo, and website marked a defining moment in the company’s evolution.
Clearsense: Solving Healthcare’s Data Challenges
Clearsense was founded by Gene Schuerer, Jason Mabry, and Charles Boicey with a mission to solve complex healthcare data challenges. As a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) company, Clearsense helps healthcare organizations maximize data value, governance, and transparency. At its core, the company believes data literacy can drive better patient outcomes. Through a data-first approach, Clearsense accelerates ROI and unlocks new opportunities for healthcare organizations, from hospitals to payors and research institutions.
The company’s flagship product, the 1Clearsense Data Management Platform, was designed to give every healthcare professional access to reliable, actionable data. Built by veteran healthcare data leaders, Clearsense offers a unique approach that differentiates it from competitors.
A Culture of Innovation and Leadership
Kaiser believes in fostering a motivated and engaged team. “Keeping everyone motivated isn’t as difficult as it might seem,” he shares. “I take pride in leading with authenticity. I focus on three things: First, I prioritize building strong relationships—one of the most important aspects of leadership. Second, I trust my employees to do their jobs without micromanaging them. I hired them for their expertise, so I let them shine. Finally, I lead by example. True leadership means paving the way with our own actions.”
The Clearsense team has embraced the company’s vision with enthusiasm, particularly around the 1Clearsense platform. More than just a product, the platform represents the unification of people, technology, and services—a concept that has driven passion and commitment across the organization.
Overcoming Challenges
Every year brings new challenges. While the COVID-19 pandemic placed unprecedented strain on healthcare resources, Kaiser believes resilient businesses succeed by staying focused on their mission, maintaining a positive workplace culture, and adapting to change. That’s exactly what Clearsense strives to do.
The Future of Healthcare Technology
Historically, healthcare has been slow to adopt new technology. For example, telemedicine only gained widespread adoption when the COVID-19 pandemic created an urgent need. Similarly, the industry changed dramatically in 2009 with the introduction of the Meaningful Use Program under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), which incentivized healthcare organizations to adopt electronic health records (EHRs). Since then, healthcare IT has continued to evolve.
“We stay ahead by keeping a close eye on the latest innovations, from ChatGPT to Google’s SEO updates,” Kaiser notes. “While we always look toward the future, our primary focus remains on building a data management and delivery platform that improves patient care.”
The Evolving Role of CMOs
Given current economic challenges, CMOs must demonstrate how their products or services deliver tangible ROI. Many healthcare organizations are facing financial difficulties, making it essential for marketing leaders to show real bottom-line impact.
Trends Shaping Modern Marketing
To stay competitive, CMOs must not only build an effective tech stack but also engage audiences through social media and high-quality, original content. These strategies remain fundamental in today’s marketing landscape.
Achievements and Future Plans
Clearsense was recognized as a “Cool New Vendor” by Gartner in 2019 and has since appeared in over 19 Gartner reports and hype cycles. The company aims to dominate the healthcare data management market while promoting data literacy across the industry.
Moving forward, Clearsense plans to expand its brand presence through content development, including podcasts featuring client conversations, industry trends, and technological advancements.
Kaiser leaves aspiring marketers with this advice: “Be humble, understand that you’ll never be perfect, keep learning, and always engage with people outside your immediate circle. The best leaders never stop growing.”
