Federico Vasoli isn’t your typical lawyer. Yes, he knows the law inside out — especially international business law — but what really sets him apart is his deep commitment to people, purpose, and personal growth. Whether he’s structuring cross-border contracts, teaching at business schools, or studying Vietnamese late at night, Federico brings his full self to the table.
He’s the managing partner of dMTV Global, a boutique legal and tax advisory firm headquartered in Singapore, with branches in Malta and Vietnam. With more than 15 years of legal experience across multiple continents, Federico is passionate about helping clients navigate complex international challenges while staying grounded in ethics, innovation, and real-world solutions.
A Family Legacy with a Global Future
dMTV Global is more than just a firm — it’s a tribute to Federico’s family heritage in law, which dates back to at least the 1700s. The firm’s name, in fact, reflects the family names: de Masi, Taddei, and Vasoli.
Though the company was founded in 2018, it has grown steadily, even through the global pandemic. Starting from their base in Singapore, Federico and his team expanded to Malta, and then — despite travel restrictions — managed to launch new offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in 2020. For a young firm, these milestones are a testament to vision, persistence, and the strength of local partnerships.
Finding His Path: From Milan to Asia
Federico’s legal journey started back in 2002 when, as a curious young law student, he chose to intern at a law firm in Beijing. At the time, China wasn’t yet the hotspot it is today — it was a bold and unusual choice. He had studied in England and was contemplating the usual destinations like London or New York, but after 9/11, those cities felt uncertain. Asia called to him instead — and that decision changed the course of his life.
Since then, his career has taken him to Beijing, Milan, Brussels, Barcelona, and beyond. After graduating from Bocconi University, he continued his studies in Austria and France, eventually joining the family law firm in Milan, where he led its expansion into Vietnam.
The Real Rewards: Trust, Growth, and Meaningful Work
Awards and flashy recognition aren’t what drive Federico. He prefers the kind of validation that comes from clients, colleagues, and students. One client once called him their “legal Picasso” — a compliment he still laughs about with gratitude.
He regularly teaches and speaks at MBA programs and executive events, and has published various articles on law and business. But at the heart of it all, he just wants to help people solve complex problems in a smart, ethical, and creative way.
Wearing Many Hats: Managing a Law Firm With Heart
As managing partner, Federico oversees pretty much everything — operations, client relationships, legal strategy — while still being hands-on with every case. He believes in delegating, but also in staying involved and accessible.
He’s built dMTV Global to reflect his values: ethical service, real collaboration, and making a difference. Whether he’s advising on international tax issues, helping a blockchain startup launch across borders, or guiding a company through a foreign investment, he’s always focused on creating lasting impact.
Redefining Success on His Own Terms
For Federico, success isn’t a destination — it’s an ongoing journey. It means being actively engaged in life, staying true to your values, and not giving in to the noise.
He puts it beautifully: “If life is a plane and you’re not the pilot, at least know whether you prefer tea or coffee when the flight attendant asks.” In other words, you can’t control everything, but you can still make choices that reflect who you are.
Challenges Build Character (And Better Lawyers)
Federico is a firm believer in the power of challenges. Like a workout for your brain and character, the tough times are what make you stronger.
He admits that, up until his early 30s, life had been fairly smooth. But when the 2008 financial crisis hit, everything changed. He had to rethink his career path, leave his family firm (amicably), and build a new business model from the ground up. Looking back, he says he wishes those wake-up calls had come sooner — they pushed him to grow in ways comfort never could.
Work-Life Balance: Discipline, Focus, and Fun
Balancing the demands of international law with personal well-being isn’t easy — but Federico makes it work by intentionally blending his passions with his profession. He’s tailored his career to include things he loves: languages, travel, geopolitics, and people.
He also keeps a disciplined routine: avoids checking work emails first thing in the morning, starts each day with a clear to-do list, and always tries to reply to messages within 24 hours.
Staying fit helps too. He recently got back into Krav Maga, is practicing Pilates, and studies Vietnamese every single day — even if just for 15 minutes. At last count, he was on a 170-day streak!
The Joy of Sharing Responsibility and Building a Team
One of Federico’s biggest satisfactions as a leader is sharing both the workload and the rewards with his team. He believes in showing real interest in the people he works with — not just as colleagues, but as human beings with their own dreams and challenges.
That spirit of respect and collaboration is part of what makes dMTV Global a special place to work — a firm where the culture is just as important as the legal expertise.
Looking Ahead: dMTV Global and Beyond
Federico has big hopes for the future. While global uncertainty makes long-term planning tricky, the team at dMTV Global has their eyes on expanding their footprint — especially into the U.S. market, where they already have some clients. They see exciting opportunities in fintech and foreign direct investment, especially in emerging economies like Vietnam.
Personally, Federico is focused on his own growth too — physically, mentally, and intellectually. Whether it’s becoming a Krav Maga instructor, continuing his language studies, or simply staying curious, he’s committed to evolving right alongside his firm.
Advice to Young Lawyers: It’s Not About You
To aspiring lawyers, Federico offers this bit of wisdom: Don’t make it all about you.
He believes that good lawyers step outside their own bubbles and understand the worlds their clients live in. That means going beyond legal jargon and connecting with people — really listening, learning, and tailoring advice to fit the client’s reality.
“At the end of the day,” he says, “we’re not just here to interpret the law. We’re here to defend our clients’ rights and help them succeed. That takes knowledge, yes — but also empathy, awareness, and a human touch.”
